  • 1 pound ground beef Use 80/20 for a juicier sandwich or leaner 90/10 if you prefer less fat.
  • 1 medium onion, sliced Yellow or sweet onions caramelize beautifully.
  • 4 pieces hoagie rolls Choose rolls with a slightly crusty exterior and soft interior.
  • 8 slices provolone cheese Mild and melty, provolone gives a creamy finish.
  • to taste salt and pepper Season to taste.
  • olive oil for sautéing Use extra virgin for flavor or a neutral oil for higher heat.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a skillet over medium heat, heat a drizzle of olive oil.
  2. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they are soft and caramelized.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned and fully cooked.
Assembly
  1. Split the hoagie rolls and place them in the skillet to toast lightly.
  2. Once the beef is cooked, divide it into portions and place each portion onto a hoagie roll.
  3. Top with 2 slices of provolone cheese for each sandwich.
  4. Cover the skillet with a lid until the cheese is melted, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Serve hot and enjoy your cheesesteak!

Notes

For best results, toast the rolls briefly before adding meat to keep the bread warm and slightly crisp.
