Method
Preparation
- In a bowl, combine the chicken pieces with garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and paprika. Toss until the chicken is evenly coated.
Sauce Mixing
- In the crockpot, pour in the chicken broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and hoisin sauce. Stir to combine.
Cooking
- Add the seasoned chicken to the crockpot. Mix well, ensuring each piece is coated in sauce.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 4-5 hours or HIGH for 2-3 hours until the chicken is tender.
- Scoop out 1/4 cup of the sauce from the crockpot and mix it with the cornstarch until smooth. Return the mix to the crockpot and stir to thicken the sauce.
- Layer the broccoli on top of the chicken, cover, and cook on HIGH for an additional 20 minutes.
Serving
- Serve the chicken and broccoli over rice, noodles, or cauliflower rice. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
Notes
Timing is key to avoid overcooking the chicken. Allow the dish to sit for a few minutes after cooking for the best flavor melding.
